Martlesham Heath has an enviable reputation for innovation and pioneering community spirit. Today we find ourselves quite literally on the edge of another great opportunity as Britain embraces the 'broadband revolution' of the internet!

In October 2002 when it appeared this opportunity was about to "pass us by" due to the rural nature of our community a campaign was set-up to help us retain our seat in the 21st Century!

In January 2003 the Kesgrave exchange was enabled for ADSL - great, but still a sizable minority of the community lived "too far away" for BT to deliver the circuits, so the campaign continued.

In August 2003, after joining forces with other local groups Communet Ltd was successful at securing development funding from the East of England Development Agency. Following a competitive procurement exercise Red Moon Ltd were seleted to deliver a wireless-based broadband service to the east Suffolk villages represented by Communet.

In September 2004 BT rescinded all planning restrictions on ADSL circuits - and those residents in the Martlesham area who had been "beyond the fringe" for 18 months were able to take up ADSL broadband at last.

Therefore Martlesham residents now have a choice of Braodband Service provider:

  • ADSL - via any ISP who offers an ADSL tarrif (and virtually all do)

  • 500kbps+ symmetric broadband services from Red Moon Ltd who should be contacted directly by anybody who wants to find out more about what is available.

Hence the Martlesham Broadband Campaign has been closed, its job done!

Thanks to all those who helped along the way, and please stay in touch via the Martlesham Community Web Portal.
